SUMMARY:CANCELLED: Coffee and Conversation: Adapting Deep Canvassing Principles for League Work
DESCRIPTION:This event has been cancelled.\nThe League is offering another chance to dive into Deep Canvassing (DC)—thanks to all the enthusiasm after our August coffee at JJ Levy’s home in Osceola. \nWe’ll gather again at JJ’s on Saturday\, January 24th\, from 10 a.m. to noon. (Please note that this is a date change. This coffee was originally scheduled for Jan. 17).\nWhether or not you came to the first one\, you’re warmly invited to join us. \nDeep Canvassing dovetails with the League’s goals—as it is about connecting emotionally with voters. It helps us: \n\nBuild genuine emotional connections with potential voters.\nInspire people to vote for reasons that matter to them.\nFeel more confident (and less tongue-tied!) in conversations.\nOr\, as The Power of One puts it: “Mix the head with the heart\, you’re ahead from the start.”\n\nHope to see you there for coffee and conversation! \nJJ Levy\njjlevy1@mac.com\n970 493 8780\nHUB

SUMMARY:Lunch and Learn: SAVE Act
DESCRIPTION:How does new legislation actually suppress voter access?\nKathy Straits and Katrina Larsen\, LWVSCV\nKarrie Waver\, Attorney and Chief Elections Inspector\, Hudson\, WI \nFrederic Public Library\n127 Oak Street West\nFrederic\, WI 54837 \nLearn the full impact of this proposed legislation. \nAs it is\, this law makes it more difficult for voters – – to participate in elections. It establishes barriers for new voters. It has the potential to disenfranchise over 60 million married women or anyone who has changed their last name! \nAmericans do not need MORE obstacles to vote. The SAVE Act would create one more barrier to the voting process\, as many eligible voters do not have easy access to the necessary documents. Compared to white US citizens\, citizens of color are three times more likely to lack documents such as birth certificates\, passports\, naturalization certificates\, or certificates of citizenship or face difficulties accessing them. For example\, while approximately half of all American adults possess a passport\, two-thirds of Black Americans do not. \nEnjoy free soup and sandwich!
