St. Croix County Circuit Court Judge – Branch II

from the Hudson Star Observer:

“With Ed Vlack III announcing his retirement as St. Croix County Circuit Court (Branch 2) Judge, the primary election for his open seat takes place Feb. 18. Two candidates move on to the April 1 election. Vlack’s terms of office will expire on July 31, 2025, and the judge succeeding Vlack serves a six-year term.”

Heather Amos

Amos currently serves as the Corporation Counsel for St. Croix County. After graduating law school, Amos became Assistant Corporation Counsel with the county before earning promotion.  In a post on her campaign page, Amos said: “Working in the Corporation Counsel Office has allowed [me] to gain a wide variety of experience in various areas of the law, including family law, guardianships, involuntary commitments, child abuse and neglect, zoning, contract law and others.”

Brian Smestad

Smestad currently serves as Deputy District Attorney for St. Croix County. He started out in private practice for several firms around Wisconsin before opening his practice in Baldwin, Wis. in 2003, which dealt with family law and criminal law. He then joined the State Public Defender’s office where he was promoted to Attorney Manager — before then heading to the St. Croix County District Attorney’s office where he works his current position.
